This report sets out the protocols for field measurements which are to be used throughout the Legume Futures research project. It fulfils Work Package1 Task 1.1 (Protocol establishment and harmonisation) which was led by the University of Helsinki. It draws particularly on input from Work Package 3 (Environmental impact) led by Trinity College Dublin.
In some cases, more than one method is described. This is because the best method to use may be defined by the site characteristics, and also by the availability of staff, instrumentation etc. Thus, this guide does not seek to define a common methodology for all variables. It offers guidance and support for those who may be new to some of these measurements. It has taken guidance from protocols followed in other European projects such as NitroEurope.
This guide is used in Legume Futures to support partners in developing standard operating procedures for all measurements carried out on sites. It was first written as an internal project document. It is published here as part of the project’s efforts to provide full access to methods and to support other researchers in this area.
